Are you tired of waiting on your Internet? What bottlenecks and barriers prevent you from enjoying a high-speed internet connection?
Sometimes you can improve your internet connection speeds with a simple fix. There are other situations in which you should consider buying a new router, or a faster internet plan.
Run A Speed Test
Before doing anything drastic, run a speed test. Internet speeds can vary at different times of the day, so be sure to run the test more than once to get an overall picture.
Once you know your speed, shop around to see other options in your area. Internet providers can only provide so much bandwidth to each customer. If everyone in your area is providing 100 mbs speeds and that is what you have, you have to look for other solutions.
Optimize Your Router
If your router is more than 5 years old, invest in a new one. New routers support faster connection speeds and do a better job allocating internet resources on your home network.
Put your router in a centralized area in your house. Keep the router away from bulky furniture or metal objects which interfere with signals.
If you have a large home get a mesh router. These routers use multiple nodes to spread Wi-Fi signals around a large area. They deliver Wi-Fi signals to dead spots in distant rooms, garages, home extensions and patios.
Use a hard-wired Ethernet cable to connect to your router. Using a cable reduces the risk of signal attenuation due to radio interference.
Get a Faster Internet Plan
When it comes to speed, you can’t beat fibre cable. It’s the only internet connection type that gives you symmetrical speeds. Your uploads are just as fast as your downloads. If fibre is available in your area you might find multi-gigabyte plans.
Fibre cable offers faster downloads, better-quality video calls and higher-resolution movie streaming. It has less lag when you watch videos or play online games.
It is now a connected world, and everyone wants as much bandwidth as possible.
Update Your Hardware
If your computer is old it can be the source of internet speed problems. If your device isn’t up to current standards it may be stuck on a slower speed. It can’t keep up with what your home internet is capable of. A slow processor and other outdated hardware can bottleneck your internet access.
Laptops with integrated hardware are particularly susceptible to this problem. An outdated Wi-Fi adapter could be the source of your slow speeds.
Wi-Fi 6 pushed maximum speeds from 6.9 Gbps up to 9.6 Gbps. Wi-Fi 6 is also much better at handling traffic from multiple devices connected to the same router. If you’re in a busy household with lots of people wanting internet access, you need a Wi-Fi 6 capable router and adapter in your computer.
The Better Connectivity Plan is a key initiative of the Australian Government to bring high-speed internet connection to rural and regional communities.
You are stuck in an Internet desert, the government is working to provide high-speed Internet to all of its citizens.
